Summary
This position is located in the Microbiology Division of the Laboratory Department, Ancillary Services Directorate, Naval Medical Center, Portsmouth, VA.




 The selectee serves as a Medical Technologist in the Bacteriology section of the Microbiology Department.




 Responsible for performing routine and specialized testing; supporting the area Quality Control program; assisting in establishing and evaluating new test procedures and providing technical guidance to military technicians and students assigned to the Bacteriology section of the Microbiology Department.

Responsibilities



Perform a broad range of complex, highly specialized, and non-standardized test procedures in bacteriology using manual and/or instrumental techniques.




Perform primary review of test results and resolve abnormal findings.



Support the QC program, maintain documentation in compliance with regulations, review QC data, identify and resolve related problems.



Operate, calibrate, and maintain complex instruments (e.g., Bactec 9000 and Beckman Coulter Microscan).



Help establish and evaluate new test procedures, perform specialized studies, evaluate new test kits/procedures, and make related recommendations.




Provide technical guidance to medical laboratory technicians, students, etc.




You may be called upon to work in the Serology, Virology, or Mycology sections if workload and conditions deem it necessary.

Occasional travel - You may be expected to travel for this position.
